Lucy and Robin

Your Organisers

Lucy (she/he) and Robin (he/they) bring over two decades of dance and teaching experience to Salzburg.

Lucy, originally from Australia, has her dance roots in ballet and contemporary dance. She discovered her love of couple dancing with Lindy Hop, Balboa, and Blues.

Robin, born and raised in Salzburg, has collected a wide variety of dances (Lindy Hop, Blues, Tango, Contact Improvisation) in various cities over many years.

In Fusion, both of them love the opportunity to combine their diverse previous experiences and make real connections with their partners.

Fusion

A dance for all

Fusion emphasises Improvisation and how the dance looks depends strongly on the dancers.

Depending on dancers’ backgrounds, they will use figures, moves, and techniques from various dances, such as Blues, Tango, Zouk, West Coast Swing, Kizomba, and Contact Improvisation.

Fusion is heavily influenced by Queer culture. Most dancers learn to both lead and follow, and change these roles at will.

The international Fusion Scene (and us!) place big value in a consent culture, as well as having an openness and respect for other dancers and dance partners.

Fusion values

Dance has no gender

Everyone is welcome at Fusion Dance. It doesn't matter who you are, or how you choose to present yourself. You get to choose how and with whom you want to dance.

Consent and Respect

"Yes" means yes, and "no" means no. Respect others' boundaries and your own. Respect your own and others boundaries, and seek enthusiastic consent. There's no place for discrimination in Fusion dance.

Curiosity and Openness

Exposing yourself to the unknown and having new experiences is best achieved with openness and curiosity. Try to meet others without prejudice.

Community and Connection

Dancing is a wonderful way to meet new people and build community. Be inclusive towards newcomers and show your appreciation for them.

Workshops and Events

Regular workshops and dance evenings are starting thiis fall — preparations are underway! Until then, we’ll have the occasional dance workshop or event.

3 week Foundations Course

Fusion Dance Foundations

We continue with Fusion Dance Foundations in October. The new block will complement the last three-week course and is open to everyone. It is designed to build new skills for those who attended the last block while allowing newcomers to join easily. It also doesn’t matter whether you are trying out partner dancing for the first time or have already taken some courses.

This block we will focus on musicality, working on how to dance to different styles of music and rhythms. We’ll also continue to work on the basics of fusion: following, leading, switching roles, improvisation, and communication. Since all of you are learning to dance both roles, you can register both solo or with a partner you want to bring along.

Fusion is a solo, couple and group dance without bullsh*t: you always choose how and with whom you want to dance. We teach you good non-verbal (and verbal) communication so that you can have fun with your partners without crossing each other’s boundaries.

When and Where? Tuesday 15/10, Tuesday 22/10 and Monday 28/10 at HOSI Salzburg. We start at 19:00. After the ca. 90 Minute Workshop there will be an open dance floor until 22:00, as well as the chance to relax and chill in the cosy atmosphere.

How much does the fun cost? we suggest a donation of 5-15 Euro pro session, depending on your means, but you’re welcome to join for free, please don’t let finacial means stop you from joining in. We have limited places, so please register – we prefer registrations for the entire 3-week block, but registering for single sessions is also possible.

3-week foundations course

Dancing out of Line

In September and early October, we start our first 3-week series of Fusion Foundations. In this course we’ll cover the basic elements of fusion: following, leading and switching roles, communication and improvisation, as well as a few figures along the way.

The course is aimed at everyone who wants to learn partner dancing from scratch, as well as those who already have experience: we will teach you how to combine different dance styles and dance with people from different dance backgrounds.

Fusion is a solo, couple and group dance without bullsh*t: you always choose how and with whom you want to dance. We teach you good non-verbal (and verbal) communication so that you can have fun with your partners without crossing each other’s boundaries.

On September 17th, September 24th, and October 1st (Tuesdays), we start at 7pm in HOSI Salzburg. After the aprox. 90 Minute Workshop there will be an open dance floor until 22:00, as well as the chance to relax and chill in the cosy atmosphere.

How much does the fun cost? Participation is by donation (we suggest 5-15 euros per session, depending on your means), but you’re also welcome to join for free. We’ll have a limited number of places, so please register to secure a spot — we prefer registrations for the entire 3-week course.
