Alternative Partner Dance — No Bullsh*t

Fusion

A dance for all

Fusion is heavily influenced by Queer culture. Most dancers learn to both lead and follow, and change these roles at will.

The international Fusion Scene (and us!) place big value in a consent culture, as well as having an openness and respect for other dancers and dance partners.

Fusion emphasises improvisation and communication, and how the dance looks depends on the style of the indvidual dancers. Have a look at our Instagram for a few examples.

Depending on dancers’ backgrounds, they will use figures, moves, and techniques from various dances, such as Blues, Tango, Zouk, West Coast Swing, Kizomba, and Contact Improvisation.

Fusion values

Dance has no gender

Everyone is welcome at Fusion Dance. It doesn't matter who you are, or how you choose to present yourself. You get to choose how and with whom you want to dance.

Consent and Respect

"Yes" means yes, and "no" means no. Respect others' boundaries and your own. Respect your own and others boundaries, and seek enthusiastic consent. There's no place for discrimination in Fusion dance.

Curiosity and Openness

Exposing yourself to the unknown and having new experiences is best achieved with openness and curiosity. Try to meet others without prejudice.

Community and Connection

Dancing is a wonderful way to meet new people and build community. Be inclusive towards newcomers and show your appreciation for them.

DANCE WITH US

Workshops and Events

Fusion is a solo, couple and group dance without bullsh*t: you always choose how and with who you want to dance. At our workshops and dance evenings, we invite you to dance with everyone, so you don’t need to bring a dance partner.

We dance every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at HOSI Salzburg. We have a workshop at 19:00 and from 20:30 there’s social dancing. You’re welcome to join just for the social. The evening is drop-in, no registration or dance partner needed.

Workshop and Social Dancing

On the 2nd of September we’re dancing as a part of the Salzburg Pride Festival. We’re looking forward to seeing a bunch of new faces, to have a playful evening exploring Fusion Dance – for those with and without previous partner dance experience.

In Fusion dance, dance has no gender. You’ll learn to Lead and Follow (don’t worry, it’s not as scary as it might seem), to be able to dance the role that suits the moment.

For the Pride Edition we’ll be exclusively playing music by queer artists.

We’ll kick off at 19:00 in Donnenbergpark*. (as long as the weather is nice) After the workshop we’ll have social dancing from 20:30 – 22:00 – you’re welcome to joining us just for the social.

The course is offered on a donation basis (we suggest 5-15 Euros), but please don’t let lack of funds stop you joining.

Classes are drop-in – no registration and no partner required. But do bring someone along if you like!

* If the weather is too cold or rainy, we’ll be in the HOSI Salzburg. Check this page for updates

Open-Level Workshop and Social Dancing

While the weather is nice, we’re dancing outside in Donnenbergpark. We’ll start at 19:15. After the 1.5-hour workshop, at 20:45 we’ll start social dancing until around 22:15. You’re very welcome to just join us for the social dancing without coming to the workshop.

The course is offered on a donation basis (we suggest 5-15 Euros), but please don’t let lack of funds stop you joining.

Classes are drop-in – no registration and no partner required.

** In the case of bad weather, we’ll be in HOSI Salzburg

Lucy and Robin

Your Organisers

Lucy (she/her, pictured at top) and Robin (he/they) bring over 20 years of dance and teaching experience with them.

Originally from Australia, Lucy has her dance roots in ballet and contemporary dance. She discovered her joy for partner dance through Lindy Hop, Balboa, and Blues.

Robin, born and raised in Salzburg, has collected a wide variety of dances (Lindy Hop, Blues, Tango, Contact Improvisation) in various cities over many years.

Both fell in love with fusion as a place to combine all their previous dance experience, but where the focus becomes more about building connection with your dance partner.
